Visit to PMB-ALCEN: a key partner in accelerator technologies
ATRON Metrology recently had the pleasure of visiting the facilities of PMB-ALCEN, an industrial company at the forefront of brazing and complex assembly technologies. Thanks to this technological expertise, PMB-ALCEN is now able to manufacture linear electron accelerators ranging from 3 to 9 MeV, used notably in radiotherapy and X-ray non-destructive testing.A member of the France Rayonnements Ionisants network, PMB-ALCEN is also a valued partner of ATRON Metrology. Our electrostatic electron accelerator, named FELIX, features a removable X-ray conversion target with:Adjustable energy from 200 keV to 3.5 MeV;Adjustable current from a few pA to 1 mA (resulting in dose rates of up to 500 Gy/h at 1 metre from the X target). Thanks to the expertise we have developed through our own FELIX facility, we now support PMB-ALCEN’s clients with:Design of biological shielding (using MCNP simulations),Compliance with standard NF M62-105,Regulatory procedures with the ASN-R for authorisation to possess and operate a particle accelerator,Specialised training.

Launch of Normandie Accélérateurs: the Normandy-based technological platform for irradiation testing
At the Paris Air Show (Salon du Bourget), ATRON Metrology was delighted to take part in the official launch of the Normandie Accélérateurs platform — a landmark initiative led by NAE – Normandie AeroEspace, with the support of GANIL, the Normandy Region, and the European Union. This ambitious project aims to pool together Normandy’s particle accelerators to offer an extended range of radiation testing capabilities for the space, defence, and nuclear sectors. Its goal: to create a unique technological platform in France, equipped with a wide range of ion, neutron, electron, and X-ray beams, to test electronic components and systems under extreme conditions. The platform will also increase beam time availability for complete system testing.A collaborative dynamic rooted in the regionAs part of this extensive network of scientific and industrial partners, ATRON Metrology is proud to contribute its expertise in electron and X-ray beams. Promising collaborative projects lie ahead with local laboratories such as LPC Caen, CIMAP and Corrodys, as well as industrial partners SCIENTEAMA, NUCLETUDES, TRAD, Tests & Radiations, and national institutions like the CEA, CNRS, and CNES.This synergy between public research, regional associations, and industry will strengthen technological innovation and provide the scientific and industrial communities with time and cost savings as well as improved access to a variety of particle beams.A catalyst for innovation with national and European impactWith €4.2 million in funding from the Normandy Region and European funds, Normandie Accélérateurs represents a major milestone in the regional strategy for scientific and industrial advancement. It paves the way for significant progress in technological innovation, industrial competitiveness, and the development of sovereign sectors in areas essential to our society.ATRON Metrology is proud to be part of this initiative and to play an active role in establishing Normandy as a European leader in radiation testing.

ATRON Metrology's COFRAC accreditation is renewed
As of 1st April 2025, ATRON Metrology's COFRAC accreditation is renewed for the calibration of instruments in terms of air kerma, ambient dose equivalent, or their respective rates.A new five-year cycle begins for ATRON's metrology laboratory for radiological protection, running until 31st March 2030. This renewal confirms the validity of the methods implemented by ATRON Metrology and reflects the team’s commitment to delivering reliable results.🔗 You can access the details of our accreditation scope here: https://lnkd.in/e32J3XYQ

IEEE Xplore publication
ATRON METROLOGY is pleased to be associated with this new publication which demonstrates that simple BEOL stack has no effect on dose deposition in the oxide of MOS capacitors. The use of a high energy X-ray generator for Total Ionizing Dose testing is studied on MOS capacitors. Several conditions were studied for the high energy X-ray irradiations (with aluminum and lead filters) and the experimental results are compared to Co-60 irradiations. The effects of both annealing and package lid are also studied. All the results are presented and discussed. It is shown that the simple BEOL stack (only one thin aluminum layer) has no effect on dose deposition in the oxide of MOS capacitors. We are now looking forward to experimental confirmation of these results at higher energies, at ATRON METROLOGY.The publication can be read here: ieeexplore
